Clinics
Spring Tune-Up Prerequisites: None
A one day clinic consisting of two different focus points; ground work and riding.
The morning will be devoted to getting respect and response on the ground. We will cover leading; backing our horse up and having it stand still; disengaging the hindquarters to get our horse "faced up"; lunging techniques that improve our horse's attention and personal responsibility; bridle work to get the reins connected to our horse's body parts (hip disengagement, placement of head, shoulder control); and having our horse stand still while being mounted.
In the afternoon we will continue, in the saddle, the principles of the morning session starting with safe mounting. Now disengagement of the hip will be used to slow and even stop our horse's forward movement. Various exercises will teach our horse to lower its head and follow its nose to promote calm and improve steering. All of these techniques are designed to give the rider ways to channel the energies of their frisky, anxious partner into positive activities that help keep the rider safe and in control while improving their horses performance.

Trail Riding Workshop
Prerequisites: None
Goal: To get you and your horse working as a team out on the trail!
Using various obstacles we will build your team's confidence and improve your horse's emotional control. You'll find solutions for jigging, spooking, buddy sour, aggression and other unwanted trail behaviors.
Trailer loading is a major obstacle! You'll get tips for safely loading your horse that will make both you and your horse happy and get you to your destination on time.
We will top off the day with a practice trail ride. This will be a fun ride in a safe area that allows us to play some games and practice the techniques we have learned. If everyone is ready, we will go down a country road. We will follow John Lyons' advice and ride where we can safely.
