Riding and Horsemanship Intensives- Age 10 and up
One week, Mon.- Fri., 8:30am-11:30am
Students receive basic knowledge in the handling of horses on the ground and in the saddle in a wholesome environment.
An affordable summer riding program near Colorado Springs! Classes are small (max. 4 students). Everything is provided; appropriate horses and safety equipment (helmets, breakaway stirrups) or bring your own horse.
Level One: Introduction to Horsemanship,June 14-18
Level Two: Elements of Riding, July 5-9
Level Three: Trail Riding and Obstacles, July 12-16

Level One: Introduction to Horses
This course includes: Safety with horses, grooming and care, horse anatomy, leading and ground control, tack and saddling up, mounting/dismounting, and the first elements of riding; such as posture, hands, emergency stop, go forward, direct and indirect reins, disengaging the hindquarters, and a two rein stop. All riding exercises will be done at a walk and trot according to the rider's skill and confidence level. We will explore the similarities/differences of English vs. Western tack and riding, however, the training the students receive is universal in nature and will serve them well whatever riding discipline they should decided to follow in the future.
Level Two: Elements of Riding
This course includes: More advanced riding. Gaining a more secure seat. A better go and whoa. Shoulder work and more advanced steering. We will learn to ride both sitting and rising trots. Exercises will be done at a walk, trot and lope/canter according to rider's skill and confidence level.
Level Three: Trail Riding and Obstacles
This course includes: Gaining confidence and control outside of the arena. Learning how to navigate whatever comes along out in the world of trail riding.
Fees
• The cost of a one week riding intensive is $250. A nonrefundable deposit of $100 per week, along with your signed registration and Liability Release form will hold your place. Places will be held on a first come first serve basis. If we cannot accept a student, your deposit will be returned promptly.
• The balance of tuition will be required when participants check in on first day.
Registration Information
The registration form and liability release form along with a deposit of $100 must be received for each program in order to hold a place for a student. Signed forms and deposit should be mailed to Gwen Stroud, 15750 Siesta Grove, Colorado Springs, Co., 80908. Checks should be made out to Gwen Stroud. You will receive an email confirmation upon receipt of your registration. The number of participants is limited and classes are assigned based upon registration postmark date, so register early.
